Abstract 

The concept of family presence (FP) during invasive procedures and resuscitations is of potential benefit to the patient, family, and institution. Yet many health care institutions do not have an FP policy in place. The two greatest arguments for effective and well-placed policies are that they enhance patient safety and protect health care professionals and institutions from liability.
